How Nissan’s CPO Program Protects Your Next Used Car Purchase

Buying used doesn’t have to mean rolling the dice. Nissan’s Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program is built to close the gap between new-car peace of mind and used-car savings, and it’s one of the smartest ways to shop at Quality Nissan if you’re weighing options in Greenwood, Simpsonville, Easley, or Anderson. Here’s what the program actually covers and how to know if it’s the right fit for you.

What Makes a Nissan “Certified”? 

Not every used Nissan on a lot qualifies. To earn CPO status, a vehicle has to meet a specific set of standards before it ever reaches a customer.

• Must be six model years old or newer
• Must have less than 80,000 miles on the odometer
• Must carry a clean title with no history of major accidents
• Must pass a rigorous 167-point inspection performed by a Nissan-trained technician

Any vehicle that doesn’t clear these hurdles simply isn’t eligible for certification, which is part of what keeps the CPO badge meaningful.

The Warranty Coverage You’re Actually Getting 

This is the heart of the program, and it’s worth understanding the numbers. Nissan Certified vehicles come with a limited warranty and powertrain warranty that extend to seven years or 100,000 miles from the original in-service date, whichever comes first. That warranty covers more than 600 components, including the engine, transmission, and drivetrain.

If you want even more coverage, Nissan’s optional Security+Plus Extended Protection Plan adds coverage for more than 1,300 additional components, including electrical systems, audio and navigation, suspension, steering, climate control, and brakes. Combined with the standard CPO warranty, that’s over 1,900 components protected. Extended terms run 7 years/100,000 miles or 8 years/120,000 miles, and this plan has to be purchased at the time of sale.

What Else Comes With a CPO Nissan 

Beyond the warranty itself, certification unlocks a handful of extras that add real value:

• Prepaid maintenance for the first year of ownership or 15,000 miles, whichever comes first
• 24/7 roadside assistance, including battery jump-starts, flat-tire changes, and fuel delivery
• Towing assistance up to $100 per claim if your vehicle is disabled due to a mechanical breakdown
• Rental car reimbursement up to $35 per day, to a $175 maximum over five days, while a covered repair is being made
• Trip interruption coverage up to $500 for meals, lodging, and alternative transportation if a breakdown happens more than 100 miles from home
• Free CARFAX Vehicle History Report and a 3-year CARFAX Buy Back Guarantee
• Transferable warranty, so if you sell to another private buyer down the road, the remaining coverage goes with the car

Nissan Certified vs. EV Certified 

Nissan actually runs a couple of different certification tracks depending on the vehicle:

• Nissan Certified covers gas-powered models up to six years old with under 80,000 miles, backed by the 167-point inspection and 7-year/100,000-mile warranty described above.
• EV Certified covers fully electric Nissan models under the same age and mileage limits, but with a 139-point inspection tailored to EV components. These come with the same 7-year/100,000-mile limited and powertrain warranty, plus prepaid maintenance for the first year or 15,000 miles.
